Até 18 de Setembro pode visitar a primeira exposição da Ellipse Foundation - Contemporary Art Collection.
O Art Center situa-se num antigo armazém em Alcoitão, Cascais.

«The Ellipse Foundation's main objective is to develop a Contemporary Art Collection that aims to become an international reference regarding global art production in the turn of the millennium. The Collection reflects the multiplicity of media, techniques, aesthetics and sensibilities considered the main feature of contemporary art's present situation.

The core of the Collection is composed of central works by artists that established themselves over the last decade and currently enjoy great recognition in the international art panorama. These include Miroslaw Balka, Rui Chafes, José Pedro Croft, Stan Douglas, Jimmie Durham, Olafur Eliasson, Douglas Gordon, Pierre Huyghe, Thomas Hirschhorn, Mona Hatoum, William Kentridge, Ernesto Neto, Gabriel Orozco, Raymond Pettibon, Jack Pierson, João Tabarra and Kara Walker.
Retrospectively, these artists are contextualized from an historical perspective that goes back to the late 1970s/1980s, and includes works by John Baldessari, Bernd and Hilla Becher, James Coleman, Tony Cragg, Dan Graham, David Hammons, Cristina Iglesias, Ilya Kabakov, Mike Kelley, Louise Lawler, Sherrie Levine, Cildo Meireles, Richard Prince, Cabrita Reis, Julião Sarmento, Thomas Schutte, Cindy Sherman, Felix Gonzalez-Torres and Lawrence Weiner.

The Collection's more current and prospective component invests in recently emerging artists, as is the case of Vasco Araújo, Fitkrit Atay, Slater Bradley, Olaf Breuning, Gardar Einer Einarsson, Elmgreen and Dragset, Cameron Jamie, Marepe, João Onofre, Damian Ortega, João Maria Gusmão and Pedro Paiva, Muntean/Rosenblum, Julian Rosefeldt, Thomas Scheibitz and João Pedro Vale.»

Bibliotecas de jardim

E porque não uma máquina de vender livros no Jardim do Príncipe Real?

Não comparando duas realidades diferentes e associando livros ao Jardim do Príncipe Real, lembrei-me de ter visto algumas imagens antigas de uma biblioteca de jardim, duas das quais reproduzo mais abaixo neste post.

Resumindo a história:
As Bibliotecas Jardim da Estrela e do Jardim do Príncipe Real são inauguradas nos anos de 1938 e 1939, respectivamente.
De 1950 a 1960, «existem 12 Bibliotecas móveis de jardim em funcionamento, no Jardim Augusto Gil (Largo da Graça), no Jardim da Praça João do Rio, no Jardim do Campo Grande, no Jardim do Príncipe Real, no Jardim da Estrela, no Jardim Júlio Castilho (Miradouro de Santa Luzia), no Jardim António Feijó (Anjos), no Jardim Teófilo Braga (Campo de Ourique), no Jardim da Praça do Império (Belém), no Jardim Nun’Álvares (Santos-o-Velho), no Jardim Constantino».
São extintas em 1980.
A Biblioteca Quiosque Jardim da Estrela, é a única a ser reestruturada em 1993 e colocada em local mais acessível.

Urgência de ler?
Se estiver em Paris e lhe apetecer urgentemente um livro à 1h da manhã, fique descansado porque pensaram em si.
Desde há algum tempo que pode aceder a máquinas de venda de livros em algumas estações de metro e não só.
O menu é variado: vai desde Homero, passa por Baudelaire e acaba em livros de cozinha.
Eu gostava de ter uma coisa destas no metro de Lisboa.

Pouco sei sobre Nobuyuki Takahashi. Do que vi, gostei.
Quem tiver mais alguma informação acerca deste jovem pintor japonês ou acerca da pintura contemporânea japonesa, agradecia que partilhasse :o)

Por agora, transcrevo um excerto de um post do Amateur d'art (Lunettes Rouges):


«L'air de rien

A la Maison de la Culture du Japon à Paris, jusqu'au 1er Juillet.

Petit coup de projecteur sur onze jeunes artistes japonais, assez dissemblables, plus ou moins héritiers putatifs de Murakami et de Nara. Nourris de mangas, ils se penchent aussi sur le monde qui les entoure.

J'ai surtout été impressionné par le travail d'un peintre. Nobuyuki Takahashi peint des lieux chargés de sens, des temples, des sources, des montagnes sacrées; il les peint d'après des cartes postales, en simplifiant à l'extrême, en ne retenant que les lignes essentielles de la composition, que les principales zones colorées. Aucune profondeur, aucune des règles de la peinture occidentale (ombres, perspective), plutôt un retour aux sources à la peinture orientale traditionnelle. C'est une épuration radicale, une recherche de quintessence, de pureté. (...)»

When We Were Young: New Perspectives on the Art of the Child

A new exhibition explores the work of some very young artists and the importance of thinking like a child, opening this weekend at The Phillips Collection in Washington.

(...) Picasso's childhood drawing "Bullfight and Pigeons", which is in the show, features realistic-looking birds (a specialty of his father, the painter José Ruiz Blasco). But that's not what makes it remarkable, Mr. Fineberg argues; it's the 9-year-old Picasso's confident, playful scribble that defines the crowd in the corrida's background.
